Critical Illness Insurance
A critical illness is one that leads to a serious health problem that may be chronic or even terminal. Critical illness insurance pays out a lump sum to cover treatment for this illness, as well as to provide for living expenses while the insured is unable to work. This is a one-time payment, not ongoing coverage.
Typically, critical illness insurance is paid out after confirmation is received of the illness, such as an official diagnosis from your doctor. The policy may require that the insured lives a certain period of time (such as two weeks) after the diagnosis is made before benefits can be paid out to survivors.
